“Pharmacists play a critical role in health care, helping patients understand their medications and the importance of following the care prescribed by their doctors,” said David Blair, CEO of LucyRx. “Pharmacies are more than just places to fill prescriptions—they are primary care lifelines for their communities.”
Pharmacy deserts are found in both rural and urban regions and negatively impact public health, particularly among vulnerable populations such as seniors, individuals with chronic conditions, and low-income communities. According to a recent study the National Community Pharmacists Association reported that approximately 15.8 million people in the U.S. live in pharmacy deserts.
“With the launch of our SPARC Program, we are taking meaningful action to ensure these essential pharmacies remain viable and continue serving the patients who depend on them every day,” added Blair.
By investing in higher reimbursements for these pharmacies, LucyRx’s SPARC Program preserves and strengthens the healthcare infrastructure in underserved areas. In addition to financial support, the program promotes community-based healthcare, such as vaccinations, medication therapy management, and health screenings as well as advocates for legislation reforms to expand pharmacists’ scope of practice allowing them to prescribe certain medications, manage chronic conditions and provide preventative care. The SPARC Program is consistent with LucyRx’s commitment to improve healthcare access for patients in underserved communities and safeguard the future of independent pharmacies.
